HOME CONTEST ABOUT US EVENTS LINKS

JaxCon 2008
The model contest was hosted by IPMS FirstCoast, The venue was the beautiful University Center on the campus of North Florida University. An excellent place to hold a model contest, the event was divided into two large rooms, one for the models and one for the vendors. While the rooms had separate entrance doors there was also a sliding wall separating the two rooms and this was pulled back about 20 feet allowing attendees to pass between the two rooms quite conveniently. The contest itself was well attended and the 107 categories were stocked with close to 600 models. The show resembled a regional more than just a local contest. It was run well, everything was on schedule, and the judging was very consistent and fair. There was also a photographer onsite that went through the model room and put photo invitation cards next to the models he wanted to photograph for a magazine article and for the host club’s web site. The majority of our club member’s models were chosen to be photographed. If you got hungry, the building had a snack bar right across the hall and sandwiches and other items were available throughout the day. There was also a very nice balcony at the end of the hall that overlooked a small lake with a fountain. A light breeze with perfect temperatures made the day just right for the contest and we really enjoyed ourselves. Marion Miller had said that JaxCon was a good contest to go to and he was right. Roy Johnson summed up the contest weekend pretty well in his article which will appear in this month’s newsletter. Don’t miss it!
